I’d like to take a second to tell you about Jes Kramer. She is a super talented girl from just outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She writes very heartfelt songs about very complicated situations. Its indie, its pop, but she’s so much more than indie pop. Jes has this ability, where its sort of like she’s taken a Polaroid of a very bad memory you had long forgot about, and then decorates it with glitter and googly eyes, and then serves it back to you on a plate of cookies. It doesn’t really make the memory go away, but it makes it easier to deal with.
She has recently self released her very long awaited debut LP, Hermaphrodite. It was going to be on Focus Media, than it wasn’t, than I think it was again for a little while. Either way, it’s finally out, and it sounds amazing! I understand it was recorded in between class and over long summer nights, over a period of years, all over the Midwest, by several people (including Doc on a few tracks). There is something distinctively personal and slightly magical about the record, as it perfectly captures her life in motion.
The CD is available on her myspace.
